Early Childhood Professional Certificate Booklet
The Utah Association for the Education of Young Children Early Childhood Professionals Certificate
The aim of the Utah Association for the Education of Young Children (UAEYC) Early Childhood Professional Certificate program is to ensure professional recognition for all Utah early childhood professionals. Currently, Utah early childhood professionals working in unlicensed programs are ineligible to receive fiscal awards for participating in the Utah State Office of Child Care. Utah Registry for Professional Development recognition program. These programs may include college and university lab schools, military programs, Head Start, early intervention programs, half-day prekindergarten programs, kindergarten, community education, mental health, and primary grade programs.
This project has 3 objectives:
- To ensure that the Utah State professional development recognition system is inclusive of all early childhood professionals by developing a recognition program for professionals working in programs that are not Utah State childcare licensed.
- To support development of a professional development system that aligns with NAEYC’s position statement “A Conceptual Framework for Early Childhood Professional Development” (http://www.naeyc.org/files/naeyc/file/positions/PSCONF98.PDF).
- To ensure high quality early care and education experiences for young children by promoting the use of developmentally appropriate practices that are consistent with research, and the core values of:
Play and meaningful learning Professional ethics & advocacy
Teachers as active decision makers Reciprocal relationships with families
Child development knowledge as a foundation for professional practices
Practices and curricula that are respectful & responsive to a child’s home culture
